Donnington Doorstep Family Centre

This has a great website where you can find out all about its activities.

Donnington Tennants' and Residents' Association

Their website can be viewed here.
Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Donnington Community Centre.
Meetings are open to all who live and work in the area and everyone is invited to come and share ideas, make suggestions and complain if necessary about anything which affects our lives in this community.
The Tennants' and Residents' Association has just received a grant of £300 to support ongoing activities and develop future community support. The Mid-Counties Cooperative Society has also granted them £250 for setting up an IT support system.

Donnington Over-50s Share Your Memories Group

We meet on the second Monday of each month in the Donnington Community Centre 10.30-12.30 to share refreshments, memories and other activities suggested by members.
Since October we have enjoyed talks from local residents with long and interesting histories and reminiscence with Helen Fountain from Oxford Museum.
We also held an Advice and Information Morning, supported by local service providers including the Fire Prevention Service, Falls Prevention Service, Oxford Trading Standards, Rosehill Advice Centre, Donnington Information and Care Service, and Age UK.
We’ve received support from the Mid Counties Cooperative and Oxfordshire County Council Community Support.
Age UK have been most supportive and we’re working with them to develop future activities and offer older people and carers an opportunity for social inclusion to break down isolation and loneliness.
We’re setting up a steering group to share ideas, develop contacts, and seek funding to reach out to those who may not find it easy to make contact. It would be lovely to hear from anyone who might like to volunteer help in any way.
At our last meeting we had a singing ‘taster’ session arranged by Marion Pocock from Age UK. Two singing tutors led us in a simple ‘warm-up’ session which was enjoyable and sounded good. We plan to hold similar sessions in sheltered accommodation and private homes if there is interest. See below for details of the Riverside Singers.
There’s also a music night held at the Donnington Community Centre on the first Sunday each month, 7-9 p.m., when local musicians get together to play a variety of music.
Age UK are also looking for older people in the Donnington area who would like to sign up for an IT skills learning course. They’re hoping to develop this project in Northway, Donnington, and Littlemore with those who have learned the basic computer skills then teaching others, either in a group or one to one. Funding is available from Comic Relief.
The next meeting of Donnington Over 50s will be on Monday 13 June at 10. 30 a.m., when Shirley Wong from the Falls Prevention Team will give a talk and show us gentle seated exercises, hopefully with music, and Roger Bartlett from Community Voices will demonstrate the personal alarm system and grants to install them in vulnerable people’s homes.

Future meetings will be on the second Monday of every month except August. Come along and bring a friend.

.
It is hoped to establish an ongoing community group with the support of Age UK and Oxfordshire County Council Community Development Team. .

The Riverside Singers

This group meets weekly at 8pm on Wednesday evenings at 36 Freelands Road for informal choir singing and exchanging music. They would welcome anyone with an interest in choral singing and music. Contact Hermione, Ben or Jo at the above address for more details.

Information Morning

Monday,11th April at DCC we are holding an information morning and local organisations are attending leaflets, advice and help on a variety of subjects of concern to local residents. These include: AgeUK, Trading Standards, Police, Neighbourhood Watch, Rosehill & Donnington Advice Centre, Fire Prevention service ,Falls Prevention service(PCT,NHS), OCC housing & waste management Depts., and hopefully someone from the East Oxford low carbon group. The reminiscence officer from the Oxford museum will also be there to introduce herself and we hope she will come back later in the year to give us a session.
Future plans are in the early stages and need some input from local residents and people interested in our community and its future as part of the parish.
It is hoped to work with all concerned and maybe look at an intergenerational aspect in times to come.
