Changes to the Chancel

The most dramatic changes are those to be seen in the chancel. Work here has involved
  • removing the heavy Victorian choir stalls and replacing them with smaller, moveable, high-quality oak benches. This will make it easy to arrange the seating to suit different needs. It will give us a special, more intimate, space for smaller gatherings of adults and children. It also lends itself to concerts and other community activities.
  • relaying the floor, to extend the central limestone blocks to the walls, replacing the wooden bases to the choir stalls.
  • improving comfort by extending the under-floor heating.
  • providing a new handrail on the north side to help people up the steps.

Generous pledges have been received to cover the costs of the handrail and some of the benches. More funds are needed to pay for the beautiful new flooring and under-floor heating.
